ENTRE CHIEN ET LOUP

The English word “twilight” has no French equivalent. Instead, the French use the idiomatic phrase, “entre chien et loup,” which translates to “between the dog and the wolf.” This expression evokes that glorious but somewhat dangerous time of the evening when the shadows are such that one cannot distinguish between what is benign and what is threatening.

In this construction, we find no better description of what my work is about and what it hopefully engenders in the viewer. For the most part, my narrative drawings are grounded in the quotidian, the familiar. But they also often provoke a sense of discomfort and dark mystery.
