THAT STICKY CANDY

Goff + Rosenthal Gallery, New York Solo Exhibition, May 2008

All works are charcoal on paper unless otherwise noted.

That Sticky Candy was an opportunity for me to look at issues of gay male identity. Playing off of gay stereotypes held by both the general public and gay men themselves, I tried to suggest that the inner lives of male homosexuals is not limited solely to a compulsion with the penis. Without denying sex’s dominant role in our lives, I wanted to look deeper into issues of intimacy (both gay and straight), ageism, carnality vs. intellect, gender roles, and the role of a previous generation of gay men.
